Hard to believe that we have come to the end of our first month! The children are learning the routines well, and are forming solid friendships. They are exploring the classroom in rich ways and we have seen so much learning happening. A big focus has been on patterning (we had a challenge to go home and create a pattern for you using our body movements, objects or words), counting and number recognition, printing our names and classmates' names, a variety of fall concepts (colours, harvest - we will be making applesauce tomorrow, and weather), conscious discipline including breathing and other self-regulation strategies, lockdown and fire-drill procedures (we had our first school drill and did fantastically well), fine motor development (we are loving painting, cutting and drawing), and learning new songs and games in both languages. We enjoy going to the gym and will begin Forest Schools next week. JK's are getting better at choosing their own snacks, and many are very successful in putting their own coats on using the flip trick (ask them about it!).
It was a very great pleasure seeing many of you at our Parent Night. We look forward to working with you throughout the year and thank you again for your support and role in your child's education. It really does take a village to raise a child! Please continue checking this site as well as our school website for updates, such as the Fall Food Drive currently happening. Many thanks to those who have already sent in non-perishable food donations.
As the weather turns colder, a reminder that you may want to keep a hat and mittens/sweater in your child's backpack for those chillier days. We do check the weather as the day progresses and instruct the children on whether it has warmed up or not. We do however, ask that only running shoes OR rubber boots be sent in each day as switching footwear mid-day causes great confusion for the children and often results in misplaced footwear. A reminder again that if you label everything, we can assist in making sure that it goes home with your child. Several children have identical belongings and the names help us greatly.
We are thrilled with how the month of September has gone and look forward to October. We will begin our Scholastic orders this month (info to come) and also hope to have Raz kids (at home reading program) and Dreambox (at home math program), available within the month as well. Many thanks for a great start! We love teaching your children - they make us smile every day.
This is where you will find photos, wonderings and discoveries that occur in our busy classroom environment.
