Wow! What a great beginning! We have had a busy first two weeks getting to know each other, learning new routines, and exploring our classroom environment. We are enjoying our inside and outside play and are starting to follow many transitions as though we have done them our whole lives. Everything from taking care of our belongings to tidying up our classroom together. We are starting to figure out which parts of our food are snacks and which are lunch. We had a practice fire drill and did a perfect job.
We have read some wonderful books, including "The Way I Feel", which reminds us of the many feelings that we can have. We talked about how all of our feelings are important but that we have to show them in appropriate ways. That lead to a discussion on what to do when we feel upset or angry. We have also read a few of our Schubert books and some of us are pros at doing the breathing techniques. We especially like doing the balloon and rainbow breaths.
We have learned some new songs in both French and English, and are often heard humming them while we play. We are getting to know each other's names, and are finding lots of things to do with our new friends, or on our own, in our beautiful and fun classroom. Our returning SK's are enjoying being role models and helpers for their new Jk friends. We have met our new Principal Mrs. Blackburn, and learned about all of the other important people in our school. We sang a song to help us remember.
We are seeing signs of fall and learned that autumn is a different way of saying 'fall'. We are going to examine fall nature finds more closely. We were wondering why some vegetables and fruits have "skin" (some of us said that only people have skin) or peel and why we eat some and not others. We will be exploring this by examining different produce. There is so much that we have learned and so much that we want to know...we can't wait to be back next week!
Stay tuned for photos beginning next week, that show the math, language, science, art and many other things that we are already learning in K1!
This is where you will find photos, wonderings and discoveries that occur in our busy classroom environment.
